The steps for assembling a gallery are relatively simple: to upload multiple pieces of content at once, users will see a new icon in the photo upload area, and from there they can tap and hold to change the order, apply a filter at once to everything or go one by one to customise each picture or video.
Instagram product manager Yichen Wang provided further insight into the release:
“This product was inspired by members of our community, who have told us that there are times they want to share more than just one moment from a memorable experience in their feed. The ability to upload multiple photos and videos within one post not only adds depth to those moments, but it also complements other products within the app, such as stories, in a way that makes it easier than ever to share your highlights and everything in between on Instagram.”
For many users and brands, Instagram has always been about choosing the perfect shot to deliver a message, similarly to the restricting 140-characters limit on Twitter.
Yet, Instagram slideshows are officially here to change the game as you know it and we are excited to explore all the ways we can leverage this new feature and its power to tell an entire story within a single post.
